I started The Culinary Standard after years of reading reviews that didn't say much. Most kitchen gear trends repeat: boutique cast iron one year, Damascus handles the next, touchscreens after that. The pattern is usually that the new thing gets praised in the same language as the last new thing, and a year later the basic version outperforms it. I try to point that out when it happens and explain what the extra money is actually paying for.

We don't outsource testing. We don't accept paid placements. We don't publish until someone on this team has cooked on, ground through, or sharpened the thing.

    Real meals, real conditions.

    Every product spends at least four weeks in a working kitchen — ours. No spec-sheet reviews. If a pan can't make a Tuesday-night stir-fry, we won't tell you it can.

    One byline. One name.

    Every review has a person attached. If a reader has a question, that reviewer answers it personally — no shared inbox, no editorial pseudonym.

    Re-tested when products change.

    When a brand revs a model, we re-test it. Guides are dated and re-dated. If a previous winner falls behind, the article changes — not the conclusion at the end.
